The following map shows points of relevance for the workshop (venue, hotels, etc.). Click on the legends on the map for location information.

Practical Information

Conference Events

There are a number of restaurants around the harbour area, see Tripadvisor for listings. If you are on a budget, you might want to consider the following places:

Travel Support for Students

The conference will be offering a limited number of travel stipends for students (up to 1000$). To apply, please send an application to fredrikm@ii.uib.no no later than May 14th.

There is no form for the application, but please provide the name of the student, the name of the advisor, whether the student is an author or co-author of work that will be presented at CSC18, and whether the student will present a poster (see below for a call for posters). If there are other good reasons to request support, please list them as well.

Call for Posters

CSC18 will include a poster session and we invite applications to present a poster. Submissions in the form of PDF abstracts of up to 2 pages should be submitted by email with the title “CSC18 POSTER SUBMISSION” to both stoledo@tau.ac.il and fredrikm@.ii.uib.no.

The deadline for poster applications is June 1st.

Poster presenters should arrive with their posters, or ask Fredrik Manne to arrange printing of the poster at Bergen; the cost is approximately 120 USD.

Important Dates

Submission deadline:  December 1, 2017.
Notification of Acceptance: February 15, 2018.

Final version of papers due: March 31, 2018.

Applications to submit posters: June 1, 2018.

Older Information

Hotel reservations for CSC 2018

Rooms have been reserved in three different hotels, see map below for locations and the red marker for the conference site. All hotels are within easy walking distance of the conference venue and the city center.

The rooms are available in the time period June 5th to June 9th, but must be reserved before the listed dates.

For all reservations you will (eventually) have to give your credit card information to finalize the booking. All prices are in Norwegian kroners (NOK).

To reserve a room contact your hotel of choice either by phone or by email. You need to supply the following information:

Note that Bergen is a very popular tourist destination in the summer. Thus hotel rooms might be difficult to find if you do not reserve well in advance.

Information that is crossed out (like this) below implies that rooms are no longer available.

Scandic Byparken

25 rooms, available for reservation until April 4th (extended from March 5th).

Approximately 7 minutes to walk to the conference venue.

Single rooms 1790 NOK, double rooms 1990 NOK. Includes breakfast.

To reserve a room, chose "Byparken" on the following page. Use BUNI050618 for "booking code" and then choose "See rooms and prices".

Hotel Park

10 single rooms, 5 double rooms, available for reservation until May 20th.

Approximately 2 minutes to walk to the conference venue.

Single room 990 NOK, double room 1690 NOK. Includes breakfast.

To reserve a room either call +47 55544400 or send an email to booking@hotelpark.no and give reference "Liljan Myhr", along with your information.

Citybox

30 rooms, available for reservation until April 10th.

Approximately 6 minutes to walk to the conference venue.

Single room 1199 NOK, double room 1299 NOK. No breakfast (but can be purchased nearby).

To reserve a room either call +47 55312500 or send an email to william@citybox.no and give reference "109038", along with your information.

Call for Papers

CSC18 will be the 8th workshop in a series that provides a top-tier forum for presenting original research on the design, implementation, application, and evaluation of combinatorial algorithms and data structures that are applicable to problems in computational science and engineering.

Typical submissions will describe a combinatorial or graph problem arising in a relevant application area, an algorithmic approach to its solution, and a theoretical and/or experimental analysis of the approach.

Authors are invited to submit both extended abstracts or full papers, to be included in the proceedings published by SIAM (the same publishing platform is used by SODA, ALENEX, ANALCO, etc.). The proceedings of CSC16 are at http://epubs.siam.org/doi/book/10.1137/1.9781611974690. All submissions must present original unpublished research; full papers may be up to 10 pages in length.  Short abstracts could be up to 2 pages in length and should describe preliminary results for presentation as talks at the workshop,  but these will not be included in the proceedings. Submissions should use the LaTeX macros at http://www.siam.org/proceedings/macros.php (authors using other software should adhere to the same double-column 11pt format).

Additionally poster presentations are also welcome, and abstracts for these will be solicited at a future date.

As in the past, CSC18 will award a prize for the best proceedings paper.

We invite papers in all areas of Combinatorial Scientific Computing, including (but not limited to):

* Combinatorial (discrete) models in scientific computing

* Graph and hypergraph algorithms in scientific computing

* Sparse matrix computations

* Combinatorial problems in data science and network science

* Combinatorial problems in Algorithmic Differentiation

* Applications of combinatorial scientific computing

* Randomized matrix computations

* Streaming algorithms for combinatorial and numerical problems

* Combinatorial problems in analyzing data stemming from scientific computations

* Numerical methods for solving combinatorial problems

* The interaction between algorithms in these areas and modern computing platforms, including challenges arising from memory hierarchies, novel memory technologies, and parallelism ranging from instruction-level and multi-core all the way to clouds and exascale.
